CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING ENLISTMENT IN FOREIGN MILITARY FORCES
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Kyiv, Ukraine, wishes to draw the attention of Nigerian nationals residing in Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, and Georgia to the implications of enlisting in foreign military forces.
2. While the Embassy recognises the varied circumstances in which our citizens may find themselves while abroad, Nigerians contemplating military enlistment are strongly encouraged to consider the legal frameworks that govern such decisions, both in Nigeria and in their respective host countries. Enlisting in foreign military service may have significant implications for a citizen’s immigration status and overall security, as there are specific international regulations on this practice with legal status consequences.
3. Beyond legal considerations, enlisting in foreign military service carries inherent risks, including those related to personal safety and future commitments. Such enlistment may affect residency rights, travel prospects, and career pathways. The Embassy strongly advises Nigerians residing in Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, and Georgia to carefully evaluate all aspects of foreign military enlistment before making any commitments.
4. Citizens requiring further clarification or assistance are encouraged to reach out via the Embassy’s hotlines and email address as shown below.
