    THE CHANCERY

    The chancery, Embassy of Nigeria

    Geographical location

    Nigeria is located on the west coast of Africa, with a total land mass of 923,768 square Km and is the most populous black nation in the world, with over 200 Million people. It has 36 states, with Abuja as its Capital and a great diversity of cultures, ways of life, cities and terrain.

    Nigeria shares its international borders with the Republic of Benin, Cameroon, Chad and the Republic of Niger, as well as, the Gulf of Guinea in the south.

    About the Embassy

    The Embassy co-ordinates, promotes and protects the national interests of Nigeria in Ukraine,as well as,five other countriesofconcurrent accreditation (Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, and Estonia).

    Its other duties include: Consular services, trade and economic affairs, and education matters, among others.

    Nigeria – Ukraine Relations

    Diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Ukraine are friendly and strong. Nigeria and Ukraine started bilateral relations since 1992 when on 10 December,a Protocol Agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed. This paved way for resident diplomatic missions at the highest level in both countries. Nigeria opened its diplomatic Mission in Kiev in the year 2000 while the Ukrainian Mission was opened in Abuja in 200l.Since the establishment of diplomatic missions in Abuja and Kiev, both countries have supported each other in their quest for elective positions into the United Nations, specialized agencies and other international fora.

    The first high level official visit by Nigeria to Ukraine was made by Alh. B. Bala, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, on 13th October, 1998. This was followed by the visit of Prof. (Mrs.) Viola Onwuliri, Honorable Minister of State (HMOS 1), on 27 September, 2011, which culminated in the signing of the "Protocol on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

    In April, 2018, a Ukrainian Trade Mission delegation visited Nigeria. The visit was to further enhance the bilateral relations between both countries. The Trade Mission was carried out in partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) as well as the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

    Nigerians in Ukraine

    Presently, the number of Nigerians in Ukraine is put at approximately 6, 000, with about 5,000 of these, being students, who are studying in various tertiary institutions. Others are itinerant (transit) traders and resident Nigerians who engage in various forms of business.

    Doing business in Nigeria

    All business enterprises must be registered with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission. Foreign investors planning to set up business operations in Nigeria, should visit the Embassy for guidelines and other necessary information.
